Connecticut Core Standards

What are the grade level standards my child is expected to learn?

In 2010, Connecticut and 45 other states across the nation adopted a set of common standards designed to better prepare our students for college and careers. These standards, known as the Common Core State Standards, and now as the Connecticut Core Standards (CCS), identify what students should “know and be able to do” at each grade.  CCS are aligned with college and work expectations in the 21st Century. The goals of the standards are to prepare our children

  • to succeed in a global economy / society

  • to apply knowledge and actively solve problems

  • to learn high level skills in mathematics and reading, writing, speaking, listening, across many subjects

The Botelle School curriculum is aligned to the Connecticut Core Standards and other recently adopted standards and frameworks for early childhood, science, the arts, library and physical education. To learn more about the various content standards, click on the links below:

How can I help my child at home?

Parents are a child’s first teacher and a strong home-school connection supports learning. Parents can support their child’s success at school by reading to or with him/her. Use daily experiences, like cooking dinner or filling up the gas tank, to create math problems. You can also practice addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or division math facts. Talk about current events or watch an informative video on a topic of interest. The more experiences and background knowledge children come to school with, the better they can comprehend, connect and apply new learning.
