Celebrating Earth Day with Hands-On Learning and Community Spirit

Our students celebrated Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22, with a fun and educational day of hands-on activities and community involvement. After gathering in the cafeteria to learn the history of Earth Day, students rotated through engaging stations led by local volunteers.

Norfolk historian Richard Byrne led hikes on the North Swamp Trail, Vicki Nelson from Great Mountain Forest helped students plant seeds, and Beth Frost and Eileen Fitzgibbons from the Norfolk Library guided kids in making suncatchers from recycled materials. In the MakerSpace, Mrs. Dubecky taught about upcycling.

Kindergartners called it “the best day ever,” and third grader Lyko reminded everyone, “We should keep the Earth healthy and celebrate Earth Day—not just on Earth Day, but every day.”
